Apply for authorisation to ship pharmacy-only medicines

The mail order of pharmacy-only medicines is subject to authorisation. A separate mail-order licence must be applied for for each public pharmacy through which pharmacy-only medicines are to be dispatched.

The mail-order business may only commence after a licence has been granted.

Required documents

  • Proof of the pharmacy's operating licence
  • If premises outside the authorised pharmacy premises are to be used for the mail-order business: Details of the size, nature, furnishings and function of the additional operating premises, including true-to-scale floor plans and the rental agreement or other evidence of availability of the premises (e.g. proof of ownership)
  • Assurance from the applicant that it fulfils the requirements of the Pharmacy Act and the Pharmacy Operating Regulations with regard to quality management and the mail-order process and that it will provide mail-order services in addition to the usual pharmacy operations

Billing is based on the current version of the fee regulations of the Ministry of Social Affairs

Miscellaneous

The Institute for Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI) maintains a mail-order pharmacy register in which all German pharmacies with a mail-order authorisation are listed. DIMDI awards these retailers a security logo, which the providers can also display on their homepage. Consumers can view the mail-order pharmacy register on the DIMDI website.
