Entry in the Register of Crafts - applying for authorisation to practise an additional craft in accordance with § 7a HWO

If you are already registered in the Handicrafts Register and would like to practise an additional craft, you can apply for an authorisation to practise an additional craft according to § 7a of the Crafts Code (HwO) under certain conditions.

Caution: With an authorisation to practise, you may not hold a master craftsman's title and may not train in the craft in question. It can be restricted to technically and economically definable partial activities of a craft.

Prerequisite

  • Registration in the Register of Skilled Crafts
You must already be registered in the Register of Skilled Crafts as the owner or manager of a skilled craft that is subject to registration.
  • Proof of expertise
You must provide proof of master-like knowledge and skills in the relevant (sub-) craft.

If it is not possible to provide sufficient proof of expertise, you can prove the required knowledge and skills in an informal expertise examination. The examiner must be appointed by the competent Chamber of Skilled Crafts. You must bear the costs of the examination yourself.

Procedure

You must apply for the authorisation to practise in writing to the competent Chamber of Skilled Crafts. As a rule, you can also submit the application by e-mail. The Chambers of Skilled Crafts provide a form for this purpose, which you can download from the website of the competent Chamber of Skilled Crafts.
After your documents have been checked, you will receive either a notice of authorisation to practise or a notice of refusal.

If you wish, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts will hear the competent professional organisation.
