"Altes Eichamt" (Old Weights and Measures office)

Altes Eichamt

The most prominent structure in the back lane is the old ‘Weights & Measures’ office, the “Altes Eichamt”, built in 1688. Until 1821, the building served as the town clerk’s chambers. In the course of the reorganisation of the administration, the Heidenheim Royal Local Court relocated there before its later conversion into a school in 1839.  For over 100 years, from 1874, the place was a vehicle and transport Weights and Measures office. Since 1980, it has been a meeting place for senior citizens.

The back lane merges in the main street. From here, you can return to the starting point of your city sightseeing tour: The Old Town Hall and the tourist information office.
