Upper Gate and former Deanery

Continuing northwards one comes to the former Deanery, built in 1695, and then remodelled in 1866-7 into the “first modern shop” in Heidenheim. It stood directly at the northern end of the medieval city’s fortification. The site of the Upper Gate is sadly now only identifiable by the limestone markings in the pavement.
